Hi,

Unix team is going to do blade server upgradation on node ( RAC01 ) in Non production DB server and (F02) node in Production DB servers. For that, they are going to shutdown those 2 nodes ( RAC01 and F02 )

Could you please clarify the following questions.

1. Should all DB instances and ASM instance of RAC01 and F02 nodes be down before they shutdown the nodes ?

2. Would there be any impact to Database and application as part of this upgrade activity ?

3. Will there be any problem in bringing up DB and ASM instance after the server upgrade?

4. Can a nodes of same environment ( Prod ) have different linux versions? for example in Production environement ( node1 version -- 5.5 , node 2 -- 5.7 etc. ) if no , what will be the impact to database if nodes have different server version?

Note : --

1.There are 2 nodes ( RAC01 & RAC02 ) in Non production DB servers and 3 nodes ( F01,F02,F03) in Production servers. ( RAC environment )

2. Currently all DB servers linux version is 5.5

Thank you

From the installation docs:
Quote:
During rolling upgrades of the operating system, Oracle supports using different operating system binaries when both versions of the operating system are certified with the Oracle Database release you are using.

Note:
Using mixed operating system versions is only supported for the duration of an upgrade, over the period of a few hours.
