Change Oracle services startup type to "Automatic".

Execute regedit.
Goto HKLM\Software\ORACLE\HOME0 and add the value:
ORA_<your sid>_AUTOSTART = TRUE (type "expandable string", free traduction of French one, check with your system).

Who knows? 8i has now been aged out Metalink site.

Back in 2007 (I *think* it was 2007; I just love those "03-05-07" kind of dates), I answered someone's question. It appears that Metalink still contained 8i (and certification matrices were easier to access).

Yes, I used to have a link to the certification matrix, but since the NEW Metalink went into effect, it only leads me to the main page. I should have saved it locally.

The only thing I do have locally is that 8i Premier support ended 31-Dec-2004 and Extended support ended 31-Dec-2006, so it is possible.

[edit]

I was determined to find the answer, and metalink note 161546.1 does indeed say that Windows 2003 was NOT supported in any way with 8i or 9.0.1.x (9.2.0.3 with some fancy footwork only).
