Hello Sir,

I am not trying to connect to any application, my database was up from the last 24 hrs.. now when I try to start another session in a new sqlplus window and I entered the below mentioned login detail: "/ as sysdba". I got this error.

Enter user-name: / as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed

If any thing that I can tell you to help me out then you can tell me.

Thanks & Regards
Deepak

Where are you trying to connect from? Either the oracle unix user or a user in the DBA group is the requirement to be able to connect as "/ as sysdba"

And what is SQL*Plus if it is not an application?

joy_division gave the solution.
