general causes are so many ....

All operations that use sorts, including joins, index builds, ordering, computing aggregates (GROUP BY), and collecting optimizer statistics, benefit from temporary tablespace

and we dont know whats happened in your environment.

To Start with...

1/ Check the long running queries.
2/ Check queries which are using Big Result set for Grouping
3/ Check TEMPORARY Tablespaces and TEMPFILES

Check if you have autoextend on.

V$TEMPSEG_USAGE (10.1+) / V$SORT_USAGE (< 10.1)
This view describes temporary segment usage.

v$sort_segment -> shows the allocated temp space being managed by the server

v$sort_usage, v$tempeg_usage -> shows the space within that allocated temporary segment that is currently being used by some session.

Thanks,
Suntrupth
