Dear All,

I am trying to install Oracle 11g Release 2 on Redhat Enterprise Linux 5.2 (vmware image) but after 50% installation it through errors while copying files on the server. I also tried on Windows 2003 Server R2 (physical m/c as well as vmware image) and faced same problems. Have anybody faced similar problems? If you find any loop holes in my installation please let me know. I did installation of Oracle 11g Release 1 and didn't find any problems.

I am also attaching a screen shot of the error. please have a look.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers
Nukesh

Hi !

That might sounds silly but have you downloaded both CDs and put them on the same folder ?

As far as I remember when I installed Oracle11g R2 on my linux machine ( Ubuntu 10.04), the first time the installation failed because I was trying to install both Software + Database itself.
Have you tried to install only Oracle and then if working the DB by using dbca ?

Please clarify.

Did fail to start dbca?

Did dbca start & then it failed.?

Different problems require different solutions.

When i ignored the error messages and keep on clicking 'continue' it went till last stage and invoked dbca but dbca failed in the last(could not remember the exact error message).

dbca creates logfile which should contain clues regarding why it failed

One thing i doubt about my steps are..i unzipped both the disk separately and renamed them as Disk1 and Disk2 as both the unzip folders have the same name 'database'. I will try to unzip both the CDs in the same folder 'database' and try again..could this be the reason, u think?

Oracle 11G is not working very well on Windows Vista and this is much more fun to run it on Linux but up to you .
Good luck!

Brilliant!!!!! Cheers guys..installation was successful on win xp. I will do the installation on RHEL5.2 now. Initially i thought it will ask for the Disk2 while copying files unlike oracle 9i but seems we need to unzip both CDs in one folder only. Anyway..i have learnt something from this as well Smile Will let you know about the install on linux tomorrow. Many Thanks to you..much appreciated..
