Hi All,

We are in the process of de-commissioning an Oracle Server , right from the scratch . Nothing but wipe out everything . Can somebody share across what all we need to do for that .

It'll be great if any template is there for that .

Sorry if my mail was not clear.

What I mean to ask is how to remove all the files , binaries and any other files pertaining to that Oracle Database server.

Do we need to follow any sequence while doing that .

How to ensure that I dont have a single file with respect to Oracle. The new server is supposed to be in use for SAP application.

Basically I'm looking for some template if I can have any in this regard.

If it is for a brand new usage, reformat and cleanly reinstall all.

No , its not for a brand usage . The manager has asked to de-commission the existing Oracle server, make sure nothing with respect to oracle is present and handover them that so that they'll go with some SAP applications.

I would drop the database (rman/sql).
If the database is in separate disks , format those. Else the deleted files can be restored by some OS utils.
Remove Oracle Installation using OUI.
Manually "rm" (remove) everything in the installation directory used for Oracle.
Remove oratab entries.
Remove any cronjob for Oracle and other Oracle users.
Remove all scripts, check profiles, and OS users.
Unset the semaphores.

Mean while,
"de-commissioning" is not the right term for this.
To decommission, start with what Michel said.

Or you can send it to Adam and Jamie at Mythbusters and have them blow it up. They like doing that.
